Foreclosures decline nationwide

Foreclosures are down 16% nationwide from a year ago, according to new data.

In Oregon, lenders have foreclosed on 5,300 homes in the last 12 months, or one in every 111 mortgaged homes. About 2.9 percent of mortgaged homes are in some stage of foreclosure, a number that's declined 0.2 percentage points from a year ago.

And in the Portland area, which includes part of Southwest Washington, the foreclosure inventory is 2.5 percent, down 0.1 percentage points from March 2012.
