Oregon House Speaker Tina Kotek said that two key bills to balance the state budget will pass this week.

The House has scheduled votes Wednesday on bills that whittle down the cost of public employee pensions and raise $275 million in new revenue mainly by increasing corporate tax rates and reducing deductions for the wealthy. Passage would represent a tipping point of the 2013 session, although the plan could still be derailed in the Senate.

Reducing pension benefits requires only a simple majority in the House, which is controlled by Democrats. But raising taxes takes a three-fifths majority, which means at least two Republicans would have to break ranks.

Yes, let's punish the corporations and those that make the economy work (wealthy small business owners)!! Isn't Nike a Corporation? Oh wait a minute, they get special privileges don't they.
This shows how out of touch some of our legislators truly are! How in the world do they think raising taxes on corporations will help the economy? We need jobs in Oregon, JOBS! This move will do just the opposite. Good grief! Wake up SALEM.

Ms. Kotek is just one more politician who thinks she knows what's best for us regardless of what the huge majority and the real experts think when it comes to PERS reform. She'll ram this weak effort at control down our throats and then find some other way to pay for it--oh yeah, raise taxes!
