Four Oregon air traffic control towers are among the 149 the Federal Aviation Administration is closing by May 5.
The towers are scheduled to close at airports in Pendleton, North Bend, McNary Field in Salem and Portland-Troutdale Airport in Portland.
Pilots will be left to coordinate takeoffs and landings among themselves over a shared radio frequency with no help from ground controllers. All pilots are trained to fly using those procedures.
