Unnamed company eyeing Lane County

An unnamed company that could create 230 jobs is considering Lane County among other locations.

To boost the county’s chances at getting the firm to select an unspecified site in Lane County, the Board of Commissioners on Wednesday endorsed a letter stating the county would give the company $1,000 for each job, as long as the firm pays an annual wage-and-benefits package that exceeds the county’s average annual wage. That average is $37,000.

The potential $230,000 cash-for-jobs offer is needed because the Lane County site is competing with locations in other communities, some or all of which offer property tax breaks through state-sanctioned enterprise zones, commissioners were told.
