Mandatory spending cuts could mean major changes in Oregon

Federal spending cuts are likely to begin hitting March 1, affecting Oregon in ways big and small.

Oregon will lose approximately $10.2 million in funding for primary and secondary education, "putting around 140 teacher and aide jobs at risk. In addition about 13,000 fewer students would be served and approximately 40 fewer schools would receive funding," the White House said Sunday.

Head Start and Early Head Start services would be eliminated for approximately 600 children in Oregon, reducing access to critical early education.

Look at all the handwringing and dooms day going on for a crummy 2% cut when the cuts should be 25%. There is a serious disconnect with 1/2 the population when going back to a budget that was good 10 years ago. As an example, multiple studies including one recently done by the Bill and Malinda Gates foundation found pre-school education is a waste, it should have been totally eliminated before now, as an example
