Townshend's Tea plans to open its first teahouse in Eugene, where founder Matt Thomas graduated from University of Oregon.
For a class project a decade ago at the UO business school, Thomas worked on the idea of serving loose-leaf tea in a coffeehouse-like atmosphere.
After graduation — and a brief stint in marketing for a medium size company — he picked up the idea again, launching his first teahouse in northeast Portland in 2006. A second followed in Bend two years later.
