Portland startup Little Bird offers a search tool that finds the most "influential experts" on a given topic in a given city.
Beer connoisseurs in Portland, for example; Montessori school experts in New York; or hip-hop aficionados in Austin, Texas. And so on.
The online tool has quietly gained traction, according to [co-founder Marshall] Kirkpatrick. More than 35 companies and clients -- most of them marketing, public relations and media firms -- have used Little Bird's search tool. In October, the startup closed its $1 million seed round with contributions from various investors, including billionaire Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban.
