Hillsboro Downtown Business Association dissolved

The Hillsboro Downtown Business Association is now out of commission, and the organization owes $96,000 to the Internal Revenue Service.

[Final board president Adam] Saffel said the association, which was founded in the early 1980s, didn't make payments to the IRS during at least a three-year period.

A federal tax lien on the group signed Dec. 11, 2012, indicates a $54,725.40 balance, including late fees and interest, dating back to the Dec. 31, 2005, tax period. The true balance, Saffel said, is much higher.

"We have not paid any of the debt that we owe," Saffel said.
