Nike now must choose where to build in Oregon

Nike is actively exploring at least two locations for an upcoming expansion. They include a waterfront site near downtown Portland and a site near the company's Beaverton headquarters.

The company's path to construction, perhaps breaking ground as early as April, is clearer because of last week's special legislative session.

The lawmakers' Nike-specific bill allows Gov. John Kitzhaber to enter into a contract with the company (and others, potentially, that promise major investments in the state) to lock in the "single-sales factor" taxing method for up to 30 years. Under Oregon tax policy, multistate corporations such as Nike and Intel are taxed only on sales within the state.
