A new mobile veterinary practice Rolling Vet in Salem-Keizer heads to clients' homes for pet examinations.

Carole Larsen, a doctor of veterinary medicine, started the business to be able to help accommodate pet owners who might not be able to get their critters to a clinic.

Larsen worked as a veterinarian in California for 31 years, and recently moved to the Salem area. Once here, she decided she wanted to take her services in a different direction.

On April 1 I attended a forum at the University of Portland on the sharing economy. The event featured panelists from Lyft and Airbnb, as well as Portland Mayor Charlie Hales. Asked about the impact of tech-driven sharing economy services. Hales said the new business models are reshaping the landscape. “But,” he added, “I don’t pretend to understand how a lot of this [technology] works.”
