The Oregon ocean commercial Dungeness crab season is being delayed through Dec. 30, devastating fishermen that usually count on selling crab for the holiday season.
The ocean commercial Dungeness crab season along the Oregon Coast usually opens on Dec. 1, but it can be delayed to ensure a high-quality product to consumers and avoid waste of the resource, the Fish and Wildlife Department said. Fishery managers met Monday and decided to further delay the opening through Dec. 30 to allow crab quality to improve.
Recreational harvest of crab in the ocean and in Oregon’s bays will remain open.
