Lake Oswego introduces mobile water purifier

Lake Oswego got a new mobile water purification unit that can produced 30,000 gallons of water each day in an emergency.

Lake Oswego and Clackamas River Water Providers won a $115,000 U.S. Department of Homeland Security grant in 2010 to buy the unit. The process was slow going, but by March 2012, they bought the Tempest Environmental unit.

A trailer houses the system that pulls water into its series of tanks that disinfect, clean and make the water taste good. The water is then pumped out into taps that residents can use to fill their own jugs, or the water could be pumped into barrels to be hauled where it is needed.

Depending on where they are pulling the water from, a regular water filter type system just won't do it. It should be a water purification system that will purify the water instead of just cleaning and disinfecting. There are too many contaminants in the water to just use a water filter type system.
