Rep. Tina Kotek was nominated by the new Democratic majority to lead the Oregon House for the next two years.
Kotek helped engineer a four-seat pickup on Nov. 6 that enabled Democrats to break the 30-30 tie resulting from the election two years ago. The 34 Democrats met behind closed doors at the Capitol for three hours.
Kotek, 46, has been House co-chairwoman of the human services budget subcommittee in 2009-10 and 2011. Working with a Republican, she helped shape the 2011 overhaul of how health care is delivered to 600,000 low-income Oregonians.
