Hillsboro transportation hubs a finalist for $5M prize

Hillsboro is one of 20 finalists in a competition designed to spur ideas to solve problems with city living.

The city's idea for transportation hubs landed it a spot in the Bloomberg Philanthropies' Mayors Challenge.

A team from Hillsboro will attend Bloomberg Ideas Camp, a two-day gathering in New York City, to work with experts on further refining the concept for final submission. Winners will be announced in spring 2013, with a total of $9 million — including the $5 million grand prize — going to five cities to help finance the implementation of their ideas.

Hillsboro got the nod for its "GoPoint" platform which would allow citizens to use alternative travel modes such as bike sharing, car and ride sharing, hourly rental cars or vanpools. The idea is to fill in where public transportation fall short and connect workers with workplaces.
