Oregon lost 7,900 jobs in September, after six straight months of job gains.

The construction and professional and business services sectors reeled back hiring, posting the steepest drops last month.

Meanwhile, the unemployment rate fell to 8.7 percent in September from 8.9 percent in August. It's the first time since May that the jobless level has dropped.
