Oregon ranks sixth among the nation's states for entrepreneurship, according to the 2011 U.S. State Entrepreneurship Index.

The index examines a state's entrepreneurial health by taking the average of five different measures of the state's economy: percentage as well as per capita growth of business establishments; business formation rate; number of patents per thousand persons; and income per non-farm proprietor.

The median for the index is 1.0. Oregon's 2011 total index value was measured at 1.76, up from 1.62 in 2010. By comparison, Massachusetts was 3.01.
