SoloPower Portland jobs to pay an average of $51,000

Manufacturing jobs at Portland's new SoloPower plant will pay an average of $51,000.

Portland Mayor Sam Adams disclosed the figure during remarks preceding a ribbon-cutting at the plant, which has started making flexible lightweight solar panels designed for big-box rooftops.

A SoloPower spokeswoman confirmed the $51,000 figure, saying it would apply once the $340 million factory reaches full production by early 2015 with 450 workers. The California company had previously declined to disclose salary levels.

Five years in the making, the Portland Mercado — the city’s first Latino public market — will celebrate its grand opening April 11. A $3.5 million public-private partnership spearheaded by Hacienda CDC, the market will house 15 to 20 businesses in the food, retail and service sectors. It has some big-name funders, including the Paul G. Allen Family Foundation and JPMorgan Chase. The project goals are equally ambitious: to improve cross-cultural understanding, alleviate poverty and spur community economic development.
