AT&T brings LTE service to Portland

AT&T's new high-speed wireless network is now available in Portland, ahead of Apple's iPhone 5 launch.

The new iPhone is the first Apple smartphone equipped for high-speed "LTE" (Long Term Evolution) wireless technology. AT&T says its upgraded network is up to 10 times faster than its existing, "3G" network.

Verizon rolled out its LTE network in July 2011. Though Apple's existing phones couldn't access it, several smartphones that use Google's Android operating system were capable of taking advantage of Verizon's higher speeds.
