SoloPower to celebrate grand opening at Portland plant

SoloPower will celebrate the grand opening of its $340 million North Portland manufacturing facility next week.

The San Jose, Calif.-based company, which specializes in roll-out, flexible, thin-film solar panels, is expected to employ about 90 people at the facility by the end of the year.

The plant, in leased space at 6308 N. Marine Drive., is financed by a series of debt and equity financing rounds in addition to a $197 million federal loan guarantee finalized last year.

Let's see.... I wonder how long they will be in business. I hope for a long time, but with more than half of the funding from us, the taxpayer, it's going to be a sad day if they don't make it. Energ2 in Albany is still not up to all the employees they were to hire, and they are not able to keep everythign running. Mercy me! When will we learn that government just isn't capable of creating anything other than massive debt.
