Oregon's economic development chief wants to meet with the president of Jeld-Wen over rumors that the state's biggest private company may move its headquarters to Charlotte, N.C.
Tim McCabe, who heads the Business Oregon agency, has asked to see Philip Orsino, who was appointed Jeld-Wen president a year ago by Onex Corp., a Canadian private-equity firm that bought control of the ailing window-and-door manufacturer.
McCabe has no word on management’s plans for Jeld-Wen, which could merely be moving some key executives to Charlotte. But he would like to avert a Boeing-style move by the company, which is the biggest employer in southern Oregon’s Klamath County, where unemployment stands at 12.6 percent.
