Portland to fluoridate water

Portland's City Council voted unanimously to fluoridate the city's water supply.

Councilors said they considered the arguments from critics and supporters and concluded that fluoridation would improve the dental health of children and other residents who rely on the city’s water from the Bull Run Reservoir.

Immediately following the council’s decision, clean water advocates announced plans to launch a citizen referendum that would put the fluoridation question to Portland voters.

Why must we blindly follow the other cities, and their decision to put fluoride in their municipal water supply? Portland is Portland. What if something goes wrong with this scenario? Why can't we be different from other cities? Just in case the decision to put fluoride in the water backfires. Seriously.
