Rep. Earl Blumenauer is calling for a "cash mob" at Portland food carts in advance of Paul Ryan's Monday Governor Hotel visit that could close nearby streets and businesses.

Blumenauer's "cash mob" is a response to Mitt Romney's visit to Portland on June 4, when U.S. Secret Service and Portland Police officials abruptly told food cart operators to shut down and go home, missing the lunchtime rush. Blumenauer was angry about the lack of notice and wrote to Secret Service and city officials demanding to know why no notice was given.

Blumenauer called the cash mob and his efforts non-partisan. "This is not about Paul Ryan or the Secret Service," he said. "This is about helping local small businesses not be collateral damage to modern campaigns."

Except, of course, everything (including airspace and all travelers) shut down when the Candidate-in-Ch ief or his sitting VP come to town.
