Clark County wineries become tourism destinations

Clark County's fledgling commercial wine industry has grown from three to 14 wineries in a few years, and is quickly becoming a tourism destination.

The number of wineries in the county has more than doubled in the past five years, with a distinctive cluster in Ridgefield. Several more are on the way and agricultural experts predict the county's 14 wineries will grow to 20 or more within a few years.

That's not going to challenge Yamhill County's 165 wineries anytime soon, but experts see plenty of room for expansion.

"We're definitely the new kid on the block," said Charles Brun, Clark County Extension horticulture advisor. "But I also think we are going to end up surprising a lot of people."
