House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi visited the Pearl District offices of Urban Airship to talk with local startup CEOs.
“Portland is the center, is really a center, for this innovation,” Pelosi told a receptive audience. “I want people to know we recognize that.”
“Since I’ve been in Congress,” said Blumenauer, who first won election in 1996, “the technology sector has been the No. 1 element in the Oregon economy.”
That was true for a time, but it’s not anymore. In fact, Oregon overall tech employment has soared and crashed in the intervening years, and is now back at roughly the same spot it was at in 1996.
