Salt Lake City outdoor gear show full of Oregon companies

At least 55 exhibitors at the Outdoor Retailer Summer Market in Salt Lake City hailed from Oregon.

A PDC-commissioned report issued nearly two years ago estimated that in Oregon, the athletic and outdoor industry directly employs more than 14,000 workers and includes 700 firms. The report, produced by economist Joseph Cortright of Impresa, also showed total statewide payroll as of 2008 was nearly $1.2 billion with an average wage of $80,000 -- about 70 percent higher than the statewide average for all workers.

Keen's display area for its footwear, socks and bags is among the largest of any exhibitor this week.
