Lane County unemployment ticked up to 8.5% in June, still well below last year's rate which was 9.6% at this time.

New graduates entering the work force in June fueled some of the increase in the unemployment rate, Employment Department economist Brian Rooney said.

That trend might be a little stronger this year than last, he said. When people start to see the economy looking a little bit better, they tend to enter the labor force and start looking for jobs, Rooney said.

Bioscience complex will house six local companies in 2013
