Talks begin to settle port dispute

A labor dispute at the Port of Portland that has disrupted shipping traffic in the Pacific Northwest for weeks entered a new phase this week, as the sides started negotiations and the last international container ship likely to visit the city for some time left.
 
Port officials said discussions were underway between the Port and its Terminal 6 operator on one side and the International Longshore and Warehouse Union and the Pacific Maritime Association on the other.

Are our leaders being sincere, in trying to do everything in their power, to avoid an impasse on this important issue? We do our best to bring local solutions, when possible, but sometimes, it is good to get an outsider's perspective on these matters, especially if communications should break down. Other industries depend on the port industry, so whatever the outcome of this decision, also will affect those partners (:
