SoloPower goes public at the Intersolar Europe conference with its new solar products which will be manufactured in North Portland.

Industry analysts are watching to see whether SoloPower’s cells and modules will be the next big thing in solar, enabling owners of commercial buildings to blanket rooftops with flexible lightweight panels — or whether the young company might head the way of Solyndra Inc., another government-subsidized California business that failed last year, igniting national controversy over President Barack Obama’s energy policies.

Barring those extremes, a success for SoloPower would vindicate state and local officials who gave the young company incentives to locate in Oregon.
