Oregon cleantech startups depend on Oregon BEST's commercialization program.
The commercialization program is funded by the Oregon Innovation Council, which is in turn funded by the Oregon Lottery. Federal grants also support the commercialization program.
Its goal is simple: Help cleantech-oriented startups navigate the funding “valley of death” that keeps great ideas from being fully developed into profitable businesses because of the initial cost to research and develop the product.
Oregon BEST uses its grants to help leverage funds from multiple sources. Critically, it pairs its companies with Oregon universities. University researchers are critical partners who help perfect research and in many cases, provide outside verification that technology works the way its inventors claim.
