The National Association of Home Builders added Bend to its list of improving markets.
The National Association of Home Builders bases its Improving Market Index on gains in employment, home prices and permits for new single-family homes. Each must show improvement for six months in a row. Portland made the list in February, and Corvallis was added in March.
Bend home values have been halved since their peak in July 2006, according to Freddie Mac's index. Its booming housing industry imploded shortly after, as unemployment and foreclosure rates skyrocketed.
