Gov. John Kitzhaber named Mark McMullen Oregon's state economist.
He has been serving as interim state economist since last September. "Mark's specialized skills will prove invaluable to Oregon's economic forecasting and our planning efforts," Kitzhaber said. He said McMullen will be involved in efforts to streamline state government and "improve our long-range budget planning." McMullen, who was director of consulting at Moody's Analytics, took over chief economist duties when Potiowsky left last September to resume a teaching career at Portland State University. Since then, McMullen has directed the Oregon Office of Economic Analysis, which, among other duties, prepares the quarterly revenue forecasts on which the Legislature bases its biennial budget.
