Walmart's Tigard plans move forward

Walmart's plans to build a superstore on 18.16 acres in Tigard are moving forward.

This month, the retail behemoth announced it would build a 137,900-square-foot superstore with home goods, groceries and pharmacy at Southwest 72nd Avenue and Dartmouth Street. Although concerns have been raised about a wetlands on the site and traffic implications, formal opposition remains to be seen.
Developer PacTrust began work to develop an unnamed big box store on the vacant 18.16-acre site in 2006. Neighbors at the time speculated it would be a Walmart, and Larry Galizio, then a state representative from Tigard, formed the community group Tigard First to fight the retailer.
