Oregon tries to lure California food firms

A delegation of state and local officials heads to California to try and lure food processors to Oregon.

 

“Oregon is an attractive environment for food processors,” said Tim McCabe, director of Business Oregon, the state agency responsible for creating, and keeping, jobs in Oregon. McCabe said the state wants to push for even more growth — and job creation — in Oregon’s fast-growing food industry.
State officials said that previous efforts to attract California food companies to Oregon “have had significant success,” citing Amy’s Kitchen decision in 2006 to open an organic frozen food processing plant in the Medford area. Lower costs for power and workers’ compensation, and the diversity of local crops, were some of the deciding factors for Amy’s Kitchen, according to state officials.
