The first geothermal plant in Oregon to produce industrial-scale energy is set to launch in June.
The cost of the plant near Vale, west of Ontario in Malheur County, is estimated at $130 million. A Nevada company is building a second generating plant in the Southern Oregon town Adel, state officials say, and that’s expected to go online in 2013. The use of geothermal heat isn’t new in Oregon, but such large-scale projects are. Homes, businesses and other buildings in Klamath Falls have long used geothermal heating systems. And guest rooms at Seventh Mountain Resort southwest of Bend use geothermal technology for heating and cooling. Read more at The Register-Guard. |
