The number of working-class Oregonians putting more than half their income toward housing jumped in 2010, the most recent data available.
Once below the national rate, Oregon now found itself in the top half of states for severely-burdened households. Among what it considers working households -- with at least one 20-hour-a-week worker making 120 percent or less of the median family income -- about 147,000 families in Oregon are considered "severely burdened" by housing costs. That's roughly 26 percent of such households in the state, up from 23 percent in 2008 and 2009. Read more at OregonLive.com. |
