Oregon-based Nike and Adidas America stand to benefit from Jeremy Lin's newfound celebrity status.
Surprising or not, Lin's rise is welcome at Nike and at Portland-based Adidas America. Both have significant growth plans in Asia, and some analysts had been concerned about the NBA's prospects in the region in the wake of Chinese star Yao Ming's retirement last year.
It's been almost three weeks since Lin, teetering on the precipice of unemployment, was delivered a different destiny. But it took time for companies that pride themselves on quick product turnarounds to respond.
A Nike brand "Linsanity" T-shirt was first distributed Friday to Foot Locker stores nationwide.
And it wasn't until Tuesday that Adidas, official uniform and apparel supplier for the NBA, revealed plans to start selling the Taiwanese-American's jersey in China -- despite intense interest in Lin's story in the world's most populous country. In this country, Lin's jersey has been the hottest seller on the NBA website since he broke into the headlines.
