Nike rolls out Olympics-inspired products

Nike introduced its product innovations inspired by this summer's London Olympic Games.

"Today we unveiled technology we believe has the potential to change sports performance," Mark Parker, Nike's chief executive, said in a presentation in Manhattan. "Nike has always been committed to bringing the best innovations to athletes at every level and we've done that today in a powerful way."
One phrase that was not used in the event's title -- "Innovations for Summer of Competition" -- was "Olympics." Only the games' official sponsors are allowed to use the term for marketing purposes.
The company's sales historically spike in years of major global events, such as this year's Summer Olympics and European Football Championship, as well as soccer's quadrennial World Cup. Revenue in soccer-mad Brazil grew 74 percent -- far more than usual -- in the quarter following the 2010 World Cup.
