The Oregon Convention Center added two local coffee shops and a $600,000 outdoor plaza.
The Center Plaza, comparable to one of the center's small exhibition halls, sits directly across from the main entrance at 777 Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. It's the block that housed a former Sizzler steak house and one of two blocks sited in a failed effort two years ago to land a large headquarters convention hotel. Renovations began on the Portland Development Commission property six months ago and the barrier fence came down last week. The plaza features two grassy areas, landscaping with native plants, an 11,000-square-foot strip of concrete for tents and convention booths in the center, as well as lighting, electricity and water service. From Oregon Translational Research and Development Institute: OTRADI today announced its plans to open and operate a 13,000 square-foot multi-tenant bioscience complex in the Willamette Wharf building at 4640 SW Macadam Avenue. Slated to be complete in spring 2013, the OTRADI Bioscience Incubator (OBI) will house up to six companies.
