Although new home construction showed a slight improvement in December, 2011 was still the worst year on record for single-family home construction.
The data show that the housing market likely remains years away from full health. In December, builders broke ground on a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 657,000 homes, the Commerce Department said Thursday.
