Kodak evolves to stay afloat

Eastman Kodak reorganized its business structure to keep up with the changing face of photography.

Laura Quatela, who last month was named co-president and co-chief operating officer, will head the company's new consumer segment, which encompasses consumer printing, digital photography, consumer film and intellectual property.
The move, which has been in the works since last year and reduces its operating segments from three to two, is aimed at creating a role for a new top executive even as the struggling imaging company continues to prepare a possible bankruptcy filing, a person familiar with the matter said. It also represents a milestone for the 131-year-old company's film business, which will no longer stand alone as its own unit.
