Tillamook Cheese to cut 50 jobs

The Tillamook County Creamery Association plans to cut 50 packaging jobs in February.

 

The move comes as TCCA seeks to streamline its packaging and transportation systems. Some of the packaging operations currently handled in Tillamook will be moved to two packaging companies in Idaho (which the TCCA already uses for shredding and slicing) and Utah. The layoffs will affect nearly half of the approximately 115 employees in the Tillamook packaging department.
"Sending cheese to be packaged in another facility was a hard decision to make, knowing the impact it would have on our employees, their families and the entire Tillamook community," CEO Harold Strunk stated. "As the Tillamook brand grows beyond the Northwest, it's necessary for TCCA to continue to look for ways to be more efficient as a company. Tillamook will always be the home and headquarters of the Tillamook County Creamery Association and Tillamook cheese, regardless of where our cheese is packaged."
