Eugene passes sick pay policy

Eugene City Council approved a sick day measure that will allow all workers to accumulate time off.

The Council voted 5-3 to pass the measure, which mirrors a similar initiative passed in Portland in March 2013. Eugene thus becomes the ninth U.S. city to adopt such a policy.

In Eugene, workers can accrue one hour paid sick and “safe” time for every 30 they work, up to 40 a year. They’ll receive access to the benefit after 90 days on the job.
