Employee Department cutting resources for local businesses

The Oregon Employment Department is pulling people and money away from a program that works with employers, changing it to one that helps train workers instead.

Employment Department spokesman Craig Spivey said it's simply a matter of budgets.

The change will be effective July 1, 2015 and save the department $450,000 annually, he said.

The staff in the Employment Department has been cut in recent years, he said, and Nisenfeld decided to reevaluate where they spend their time at work, with the emphasis being on helping people find jobs.
