Intel teams with Ford on 'connected car'

Researchers in Hillsboro have been working on a joint research partnership with Ford to outline ways technology could enable a car to recognize its driver and respond to commands with hand motions.

It's the latest in a series of efforts Intel has undertaken in an effort to reduce its dependency on the declining PC market and ready its chips for a more diverse computing ecosystem that includes wearable technology and the "Internet of things" – connecting everyday appliances to the web to improve performance.

Intel researchers in Hillsboro worked with their counterparts in Ford's research offices in Dearborn, Mich., on what the companies call "Project Mobii" – which stands for "mobile interior imaging."
