Oregon preparing for strong forest fire season

Oregon Department of Forestry officials predict a stronger than average forest fire season this year.

While rainfall is expected to be about average, temperatures likely will be higher than normal, leading to overall dryer conditions, Nick Yonker, meteorology manager for the Oregon Department of Forestry, told the Board of Forestry on Wednesday morning.

This year, already, 124 fires have burned 1,700 acres. That compares with 827 acres burned at this time last year, said Doug Grafe, ODF fire protection deputy chief.
