Facebook: Prineville data center created 1,500 Oregon jobs

The social networking site operates two 330,000-square-foot data centers in Central Oregon, with space for a third.

Data centers have become a huge industry in Oregon, where many of the world's biggest tech companies take advantage of the state's enterprise zone property tax breaks to save millions – or tens of millions – of dollars every year. In Facebook's case, the company saved $4.4 million in 2012.

The majority were short term construction jobs. Now we have sold our seed-corn by committing our relatively cheap hydro-power that otherwise could have been used more productively.
