The Portland-based company will open an operations and engineering center in Charlotte.
NuScale Power will hire about 70 initially and expects to grow from there.
NuScale was considering Charlotte and Greenville, S.C., as possible sites for its East Coast office. The company realized that a lot of talented workers experienced in the small modular-reactor business were going to be available in Charlotte and from Lynchburg, Va., due to Babcock & Wilcox cutbacks.
