Expert hints at Nike manufacturing in Oregon

Sharon Blair, director of Portland Sewing, said Nike plans to hire designers and begin manufacturing at its Washington County headquarters.

Blair declined to elaborate on the statement after the event concluded. A Nike spokesman did not immediately return messages.

If Nike was studying whether making clothes in Portland was feasible, Blair would be a logical person to call. As the head of a company that offers classes for beginning and advanced stitchers, she'd be able to answer Nike's questions about whether there are enough qualified workers for Nike to hire.
