The region's seasonally adjusted jobless rate was 6.9 percent in January, unchanged from December 2013.
Total nonfarm employment was up 2,800 from January 2013 to January 2014 — a 2 percent increase, employment figures show.
“We were at 1-1.5 percent employment growth, — a lagging, slow, tepid recovery,” Rooney said. “But with the revision and January numbers, we’re looking at 2 percent growth over the year, which is normal for a recovery.”
