Adidas tops list for efforts to end Uzbekistan-sourced cotton

The sports apparel manufacturer had the highest ranking among 49 brands judged for their efforts to eliminate the cotton in their supply chains.

A separate group, the International Labor Rights Forum, issued a report last year urging brands and retailers to be more certain that cotton from Uzbekistan, a landlocked Central Asian nation, does not find its way into their cotton supplies and products.

Adidas spokeswoman Katja Schreiber said in an email, "We are pleased to see that our continuous efforts in driving cotton traceability are recognized and that our engagement with the stakeholder community and the government has been acknowledged."
